The Boothe Home
by Thomas Sopko, Board of Directors

Robert and Judy Boothe are each over 60, retired and have resided in their present home for the past 15 years. Robert has heart disease and diabetes, and Judy has muscular dystrophy and heart problems. These health concerns led to the accumulation of a number of tasks around their home that required some attention to allow them to remain comfortable and safe. The upgrading of this home was sponsored by Lubrizol Corporation of Wickliffe. In one day, Lubrizol's group of 35 volunteers transformed those accumualtion of tasks into finished projects making the future day-to-day lives of the Boothes a little easier.

The rear deck was power washed, the steps and handrail rebuilt, and the whole deck sealed. The entire exterior of the house was painted with two coats. The gutters were cleaned. An existing handrail was repaired and an additional handrail was added to the basement steps making the travel on those steps easier and safer. The dark hallway to the bedrooms and bathroom was made brighter and safer by installing a new light fixture, painting the ceiling and papering the hall with white wallpaper. The bathroom ceiling was painted and the wallpaper repaired. To ease their allergies, the living room carpet and pad were removed and the hardwood floors cleaned and buffed. In the yard, the flower beds were landscaped with timbers, overgrown bushes trimmed and a new mailbox post installed.

The Lubrizol Corporation has contributed both with donations and volunteers since the beginning of this worthwhile community program. We feel it is important to give back to the community and we are proud to be an active participant in Christmas in April assisting those in our own backyard. But most of all it does help a segment of the community that deserves to be and needs to be helped.
